Biographical material includes Martin's last will and testament, and information on his family, including his wife and descendants. Correspondence includes references to his father Col. William J. Martin, Davidson College and his role as president, the Presbyterian General Assembly, and the establishment of a Presbyterian Junior College. Addresses include a speech given after the burning of Old Chambers and the dedication speech for New Chambers. Literary material is copies of his doctoral dissertation, "A Platinum Ore Analysis." Printed material includes references to Davidson College, Woodrow Wilson's visit to Davidson in 1916, the Martin Science Building, the President's House, and General Assembly Training School in Richmond, Va. Photographs are of Dr. Martin and his family, Woodrow Wilson during his visit to campus, and pictures of the President's House before restoration. Financial information is contained in a notebook. There is a cookbook which probably belonged to Dr. Martin's wife; and a scrapbook, made by her. Oversize material contains one diploma belonging to Dr. Martin and two dipolmas belonging to his family. William Joseph Martin Jr., was born in Columbia, Tenn. in 1868, but during his youth his father accepted a position with Davidson College and they moved to Davidson. He was graduated from Davidson College in 1888 and earned an M.A. the following year. In 1890, he earned his M.D. degree from the University of Virginia and four years later he earned his Ph. D.
